Susan G. Komen for the Cure

2011 marks a strong new year for survivors and activists to continue banding together against breast cancer. At the head of this magnificent fight is Susan G. Komen for the Cure® with its resounding promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Determined to fortify awareness, Komen has organized the Komen Race for the Cure® Series, now the world's largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer. Currently, these Races bring together over one million believers each year to battle breast cancer by walking or running to find a cure.

Ford is proud to be celebrating its 17th year as a National Series Sponsor of Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Since 1995, Ford has dedicated more than $110 million to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Nancy Brinker founded Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 1982 in memory of her sister, who died of breast cancer at age 36. 1983 marked the beginning of the Komen Race for the Cure, which has grown from one Race in 1983 to more than 127 Races and more than 1.7 million participants planned for 2011.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrating breast cancer survivorship and honoring those who have lost their battle with the disease. With funds raised by the Komen Race for the Cure Series, Komen, along with its Affiliate Network, is able to fund breast cancer research grants, meritorious awards and educational, scientific and community outreach programs around the world.
